The producer of Great Value (Walmart) cottage cheese, Saputo Cheese USA, has issued a recall because the dairy ingredients used to make it may not have been properly pasteurized. No illnesses have been reported.

The following recalled tubs of cottage cheese were sold from Feb. 17, 2026, through Feb. 20, 2026:

• Great Value Small Curd Cottage Cheese, 3 lb. tub; UPC 078742147970, with best if used by dates of April 1 or 2, 2026.

The products were shipped to Walmart stores and distribution centers in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Saputo Cheese USA did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

“While no illnesses have been reported so far, this recall is an important reminder that pasteurization is the primary line of defense against dangerous pathogens that can be found in raw milk, such as listeria, salmonella, and E. coli,” says James E. Rogers, PhD, director of product and food safety research and testing at Consumer Reports. “For high-risk groups—including the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems—consuming under-pasteurized dairy-based products can lead to severe, life-threatening complications.”

If you bought a tub of the recalled Great Value cottage cheese, don’t eat it. Return it to the Walmart store where you bought it for a refund. Contact Saputo with any questions at 888-587-2423, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.
